Frederick Crosby was named the Horry County Fire Chief Tuesday at an Horry County Council meeting.
Crosby will begin his employment with Horry County on November 15.
"The selection committee was focused on three factors: the fire side of the department, medical as it relates to EMS and volunteerism," said Horry County Administrator Chris Eldridge. "We are pleased with our selection, and I look forward to working with Mr. Crosby."
According to a release from Horry County, Crosby has been in the fire/rescue field for over 30 years. He has served with the Hanover County (VA) Fire/EMS Department since 1987 and as their Chief for the last 12 years. Hanover County has a combination Fire and EMS Department covering over 512 square miles, with approximately 152 employees and over 1000 volunteers.
"The timing of his employment is perfect as we will begin the budget process after the first of the year, stated Paul Whitten, Horry County Assistant County Administrator for Public Safety. "I am excited to work with him and learn his work philosophies as it relates to fire/rescue protection services we can offer the citizens of Horry County."
The final candidates were Butch Womack, fire chief in Easley; James Crawford, Midway Fire and Rescue's assistant chief; and Crosby.
Kenneth Beans has been serving as chief since Garry Alderman stepped down in April.
