The Florence Police Department's bloodhound, Tracker, died Saturday.
Tracker went to bed in his doghouse at his handler's home and didn't wake up the next morning, said Chief Anson Shells.
Tracker has been laid to rest.
Tracker's handler didn't have any indications there was anything wrong, according to Shells.
Tracker came to the police department in 2004. Students at Briggs Elementary School in Florence picked his name in a contest.
Tracker has helped to track down many criminals, said Shells, and he will be deeply missed.
The department plans to release a memorial flyer with a picture of Tracker later in the week.
We are waiting on a picture to be released of Tracker.
