If you ask Jake Rosiek, a high school and college intramural sport referee of 13 years, what he thinks about this week's NFL replacement ref story, he'll say that's irregular to say the least.
"For us it's extraordinarily rare to get that much attention," he says.
NFL referees went back to work this week following a controversial call at the Green Bay Packers and Seattle Seahawks game Monday.
Rosiek has been calling high school football in South Carolina since 2006. He says preparedness can help with consistency.
"That's what coaches and players are looking at every level. Starting with pop-1 football all the way up to the NFL. They just want consistent calls wether it be offense or defense," Rosiek says.
He adds some calls, mostly the judgement calls, are tougher than others to make. The scrutiny-for any call-is something they try to avoid, as shown by Monday's Seattle - Green Bay game.
"Our goal is to not be seen or heard from. One of the best compliments we can receive is the coaches, players, fans, didn't notice we were there," Rosiek says.
