Pharmacy Technician students are learning the dangers of not properly discarding prescription drugs.
The students at Virginia College in Florence are taking part in National Drug Take Back Day this Saturday, a day when you can turn in unused or expired medication for safe disposal.
The student's instructor says she wants them to learn more about prescription drugs than just counting and dispensing pills.
She's teaching them the environmental dangers of expired, unused or unwanted drugs when they are not disposed of correctly.
"People don't have prescriptions they discard. If they do discard them and flush them down the toilet which is a danger to our environment or they'll just keep them for later usage," said Julia Merriweather of Virginia College.
You can bring your unwanted medications at Virginia College on David McLeod Boulevard this Saturday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
