South Carolina State Representative Tracy Edge was arrested early Thursday morning for driving with a suspended license.

Edge was driving north on Ocean Boulevard near 41st Avenue North in North Myrtle Beach at 3:51 a.m., when he crossed over the center line and almost collided with a police officer who was driving south on the same road, according to the report.

The officer initiated a traffic stop, and dispatchers discovered his license had been suspended for failure to pay a traffic ticket, the report stated.

The officer arrested Edge and gave him a ticket for driving under suspension and a warning ticket for driving left of center.

Edge has two traffic tickets pending in Horry County courts, according to the online public index.

Both are for speeding 10 mph or less over the limit.

Edge told the officer he sent money in the mail to pay the ticket on Monday but had no proof of that in his possession.

In a police dashcam video of the incident, Edge tells the officers he believed he'd gotten an extension to pay the ticket.

Edge was found with $2,300 in his possession at the time of the arrest.

Edge's license has been suspended since September 3rd, according to the North Myrtle Beach Department of Public Safety.

According to the J. Reuben Long Detention Center booking report, he was processed at 4:37 a.m. and was released nearly an hour later after posting his $653 bail.

Edge has served as state representative for District 104 since 1996.

He faces Democrat Charles Randall in the upcoming November election.
