RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - North Carolina health officials are warning people not to eat or purchase a type of Trader Joe's peanut butter because of a possible link to a national Salmonella outbreak.

Officials said Saturday that consumers shouldn't eat or buy Trader Joe's Salted Valencia Peanut Butter. They say Trader Joe's has issued a voluntary recall of the product but no specific lot numbers are available.

A North Carolina child is among at least 29 people nationally who got sick in cases believed to be connected to the peanut butter.

Salmonella can cause diarrhea, fever and abdominal cramps 12 to 72 hours after infection. The illness usually lasts four to seven days, and most people recover without treatment.
