The 15th Judicial Circuit held a safety checkpoint in Surfside Beach Friday night.

The checkpoint resulted in 38 citations issued and six arrests, according to an after action report from Cpl. Shannon Toole of the Myrtle Beach Police Department.

There were two people arrested for driving under the influence.

There were also two fugitives caught during the checkpoint.

Also, a suspect failed to stop for an officer and fled the scene on Caropines Drive. The suspect, Johnny McLeod, almost hit a probation and parole agent while trying to flee, according to the police report.

South Carolina Highway Patrol chased McLeod for one block. McLeod then bailed out of his vehicle, while leaving it in reverse, and fled on foot, the report says.

McLeod's vehicle also struck a Highway Patrol car as he fled away and Highway Patrol captured McLeod after a foot chase using the K9 unit, according to the report.

McLeod had three hits of heroin, 1 gram of crack cocaine, and approximately $1000 in his vehicle, according to the officers.

Agencies participating included Surfside Beach, Horry County Police, Horry County Sheriff's Office, North Myrtle Beach, Myrtle Beach, CCU, Briarcliffe Acres, SCHP, Georgetown County Sheriff's Office, Andrews, Conway, South Carolina Probation Parole, OHS, and the State Constables.
