United States Attorney Bill Nettles said Friday that Jammy Miller, 45, of Darlington, and Jeffrey Blanton, 50, of Hamlet, North Carolina, were sentenced this week in federal court in Florence for operating an illegal gambling business.

United States District Judge Terry L. Wooten, after granting the government's motion to reduce his sentence due to his cooperation in the prosecution of others, sentenced Miller to a reduced sentence of 30 days incarceration, five months of home detention and 3 years supervised release.

Blanton was sentenced to 30 days incarceration, five months of home detention and two years supervised release.

Evidence presented at the change of plea hearing showed that in February 2011, the Darlington County Sheriff's Office contacted the United States Secret Service regarding an illegal gambling operation being conducted at Jammy Miller's residence in Darlington.

Darlington County Sheriff's Office executed a search warrant on January 22, 2011, at Miller's home seizing approximately $185,000, four vehicles, gambling paraphernalia, Miller's personal computer and cell phone, and approximately nine gambling ledgers that detailed $3 millon in gross wagers over an eleven month period.

During the search, about 25 people were arrested for Unlawful Betting and Gambling. Several were from North Carolina.

The case was investigated by Darlington County Sheriff's Office and agents of the United States Secret Service.
