U.S. Marshals have helped track down several dangerous fugitives on the Grand Strand and Pee Dee, and Thursday they celebrated 223 years of service.

South Carolina U.S. Marshal Kelvin Washington says his task force has worked several operations in our area this year, including Operation Carolina Shield in May.

Marshals helped perform verification checks on all 423 sex offenders living in Horry County.

"We come in and help them go after the worst of the worst, and we want these people off the street and in jail where they need to be. So, we can continue to provide a safe and comfortable living environment for the residents of our state," said Washington.

The marshals also played a major part in tracking down Lakavis Harrison in January.

Florence police were looking for him for the murder of a community activist Michael Hawkins.
