(AP) -- State Commerce Secretary Bobby Hitt is joining state and local lawmakers as Johnson Controls opens its new recycling center in Florence.

The opening is scheduled for Tuesday at the $150 million facility. It's a battery recycling center that employs 200 people, and officials estimate that the development of the center also created 1,000 indirect jobs in the Florence area.

The facility is on a 36-acre site, part of which is protected under a conservation easement.

On January 18, 2011, Johnson Controls broke ground for the recycling center.

The center is located directly off of US-76 on Paper Mill Road.
