Andrea Darshae Brooks, 26, was arrested Monday morning and taken to the J. Reuben Long Detention Center on one count of Assisting in the Preparation of a False Tax Return.

Brooks provided a fraudulent W2 tax form to her tax preparer, according to South Carolina Department of Revenue investigators.

Brooks did not work for the employer indicated, and the W2 tax form stated that she earned $14,988 in wages and had $674 in state taxes withheld.

As a result of the fraudulent W2 tax form, they say Brooks submitted a fraudulent 2011 individual income tax return and requested a state tax refund of $674 to which she was not entitled.

If convicted of the felony charge, Brooks could face up to $500 in fines and/or up to 5 years in prison.
