Georgetown County sheriff's deputies say Sandra D. Cook, 40, of Murrells Inlet, was traveling 88mph in a 45mph zone on Highway 17 in Pawleys Island around 11 a.m. Monday morning, when they attempted to stop her for speeding.

They say Cook failed to stop and led deputies on a chase from Pawleys Island, into the City of Georgetown, and then back north into Pawleys Island.

Deputies laid down "stop sticks" just north of the Waccamaw River Bridge.

Cook drove over them, but still managed to make it to just north of the Martin Luther King Road and Highway 17 traffic light in the Pawleys Island before the damage to her car stopped her from going further, according to a release from Georgetown County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Carrie Cuthbertson.

Cook's car came to a stop in front of the Pets in Paradise boarding and grooming business on Highway 17 near Sam's Corner.

There were no injuries or damage to property, other than Cook's car from the stop sticks.

After Cook got out of her car, she began walking away from deputies drinking a bottle of Tequila, according to Cuthbertson.

Deputies took her into custody and charged her with Failure to Stop for a Blue Light, Driving Under Suspension, Reckless Driving and Open Container.
