One counseling center is looking to increase awareness on how to prevent suicide this week, as Monday marks World Suicide Prevention Day.
Six people in South Carolina commit suicide every five days,according to the Coastal Samaritan Counseling Center.
This October will make it 13 years since Dawne Dunton found her fiance, after he committed suicide by hanging himself.
"Because of how I found him. It's burned into the front of my brain. It's hard," Dunton said.
She relocated to Myrtle Beach in 2008.
"That morning we were talking about what we were going to do for our honeymoon. They hide it very well, he hid it very well," she says. "There are a lot of people out there who will call people who commit suicide cowards, but it's those around who don't help them who are cowards."
In 2008, 36,035 people died nationwide as a result of suicide. In South Carolina, 111 adults had serious thoughts of suicide, 45 made a suicide plan, and 12 attempted suicides, according to the Centers for Disease Control.
