A 7-year-old Florence child is recovering after a gunshot wound Saturday night led to her leg being amputated below the knee.

The shooting happened around 10 p.m. at a home on Willow Trace Drive in Florence.

Capt. Michael Nunn with the Florence County Sheriff's Office says it appears to be accidental and the child was not the intended victim.

The child's father, Kevin McKnight, says his little girl is strong and a real trooper.

He says she's coping with what happened and the amputation as best she can.

McKnight says it's expected his daughter will transferred to a rehabilitation facility in Charlotte later this week.
