Georgetown Fire Chief Joey Tanner says it will be a few days before they can determine what caused the fire at an historic Georgetown home because the damage was so extensive.
Firefighters were responding to a smell of smoke in a house about 8 p.m. Tuesday when dispatch told them the fire alarm was going off at 212 Screven Street.
Firefighters battled the fire until about 4 a.m. They had crews on the scene until 7:30 a.m. and a truck will periodically check on the house throughout the day Wednesday.
Three firefighters were taken to the hospital for heat exhaustion while fighting the fire. They were treated and released from the hospital. Chief Tanner says he spoke with all three Wednesday and all are fine.
The homeowners were not hurt.
