The owner of a red-nosed Pitbull is in jail this morning, after Myrtle Beach police found his dog hanging from a wooden dog house by a cabled tether, according to the report.
Hector Rolando Lopez, 21, was arrested and charged with ill treatment of animals on Monday.
Neighbors called officers to Lopez's home at 6213 Blynn Dr. three times throughout the night, complaining of a barking dog. They weren't able to find the dog and on the last visit, woke Lopez.
He found the dog tangled with a cabled tether that was wrapped around and embedded into the dog's abdomen, which caused tension to the collar.
Lopez freed his pet, but he immediately collapsed and was struggling to breathe. The dog was taken to the Grand Strand Humane Society for treatment, but died an hour later from exhaustion, strangulation and internal organ damage.
Lopez is being held at the Myrtle Beach Jail.
