Timmonsville Mayor Darrick Jackson says the woman arrested on accusations she stole water from the town is his aunt.
Last Friday, the State Law Enforcement Division charged Juanita Jackson with Altering, Tampering, Bypassing Utility Meters.
Agents say Timmonsville workers locked her water meter on January 18 and shut off her water for non-payment.
On February 18, workers returned to find water had been used and the lock had been tampered with.
Agents say Jackson admitted to tampering with the meter to get water in her home.
She is the third person to be arrested in the Timmonsville water thefts.
Jackson didn't want to comment on his aunt's arrest saying it was a legal situation.
Jackson is out of jail on a personal recognizance bond.
State police started the investigation into water thefts in the town about a year ago. There are still several investigations involving alleged public corruption in Timmonsville.
Agents say they can't comment on any ongoing investigation.
