BLYTHEWOOD, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina students are getting ready to go back to school, and state officials want to make sure that parents talk with their older kids about keeping emergency contact information up to date.

The South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles says parents should talk with their teens and college-age children about entering emergency contact information in their DMV records.

Agency executive director Kevin Shwedo says the information could be valuable to first responders if the child gets hurt.

There's a place on the agency's website, www.scdmvonline.com, to enter the information. People can designate two emergency contacts by entering their name, address and telephone numbers.
