Les Crowley, the man that led Florence County deputies on a chase earlier this month and was later charged for weapons violations, appeared in court for a bond hearing Thursday morning.
Crowley is charged with stalking, failure to stop for a blue light, and weapons violations after deputies found weapons, ammunition and materials associated with items used to make explosive devices in his home.
Circuit Court Judge Thomas Russo denied bond for Crowley based on the seriousness of the charges against him.
On August 1, Florence County Sheriff's Deputies say he stalked his estranged wife outside of her apartment on Freedom Boulevard.
They say he was armed with an AR-15 rifle with a grenade attached to it.
When officers approached Crowley to question him about the weapon, they say he took off in his pickup.
A chase ensued, but deputies backed off when they felt it became too dangerous to continue chasing Crowley.
He turned himself in August 3 following a federal manhunt through South Carolina, Alabama and Georgia.
Officers with the Darlington County Sheriff's Office got a warrant to search his home near Hartsville, which is in Darlington County.
They say they found more weapons than you would find at a police department. Officers also say they confiscated several explosives, including IED's.
The weapons and devices are being examined by law enforcement.
Twelfth Circuit Solicitor Ed Clements, III says Crowley is a dangerous person.
"This is a very, very dangerous situations . One of the most highly volatile situations I've dealt with in my years of service," said Clements.
Crowley's attorney wanted the judge to grant bail with tough restrictions for his client. He even requested for Crowley to be placed on electronic monitoring, but Solicitor Clements felt Crowley would outsmart the system.
"He has a lot of knowledge about electronics and I don't think electronic monitoring is something that would keep the community safe from someone with this knowledge and ability."
The judge ordered Russo to undergo a mental evaluation by state authorities.
After that evaluation is completed and the results are made known to the judge, Crowley's attorney can request to have another bond hearing for him.
We're told a federal investigation is pending against Crowley.
