People wanting help in the fight to end Alzheimer's were at the River Oaks Country Club in Horry County Tuesday night to kick off the fundraising campaign for the 2012 Walk to End Alzheimer's.

The walk will be held Saturday, October 6th at Broadway at the Beach in Myrtle Beach. NewsChannel 15's Tim McGinnis will be the emcee for the 4th year.

Kim Almstedt who is the Program Director for the Alzheimer's Association of South Carolina says the Walk is a great event because so much of the money raised will stay in the area, she says, ""All funds from the walk there is a 60-40 percent ratio. 60 percent stays local which is huge."

Alzheimer's is a disease that affects not only the patient, but those who care for that person as well. Joyce Hunt knows that all too well. Her 59-year-old husband was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer's three years ago.
