LEXINGTON, S.C. (AP) - A former worker at a West Columbia medical clinic accused of putting bleach into a dialysis machine is scheduled to appear at a bond hearing.

The hearing is slated for Thursday in a Lexington County courtroom.

Deputies said 49-year-old Donald Foster III was arrested Wednesday and charged with attempted murder and second-degree burglary.

Sheriff James Metts says patients could have died if clinic workers hadn't found the bleach in the water before using it.

Investigators say Foster was suspended from his job as an equipment manager at Fresenius Medical Services on July 2, then broke into the clinic July 6 and poured bleach into a water tank. Workers discovered the contaminated water during a test before running the machine.
