Mercom Corporation announced Wednesday it will expand its existing operations in Georgetown County, generating 30 jobs.

"Our company continues to see growth, and we are pleased to move forward with this expansion. South Carolina has been an excellent fit for our business over the years. Georgetown County provides us with an excellent business environment and a strong workforce, and we look forward to continue doing business here. We appreciate all the support we've received from state and local officials," said Mercom Vice President/Chief Operating Officer Larry Mercado in a press release.

Mercom designs and installs information technology systems and in both the commercial and government sectors. The company says it needs the expansion to meet increasing demand for its services.

"Today's announcement is another win for one of our state's rural counties. We celebrate Mercom's decision to expand its Pawley's Island operation with an investment of $1 million and the creation of 30 new jobs. South Carolina continues to show it's the right place for a business to grow and prosper," said Governor Nikki Haley.

"Georgetown County is excited that a state of the art technology firm such as Mercom is expanding its organization in our county. Its success speaks volumes for the skilled workforce in our area. Georgetown County is committed to creating a pro-business environment that allows quality companies like Mercom to flourish," said Georgetown County Council Chairman Johnny Morant.
