Around 150 people showed up to the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Horry County School's Early College High School program facility Wednesday morning.

The Early College High School Program has been around for six years and this new facility allows students to attend classes in one building, instead of traveling to various Horry-Georgetown Technical College campuses.

"History is being made today. Its a bleeding of k12 and higher ed that this state has never seen before. We should be proud of this historic moment six years in making. Before they had to go from building to building for classes," Horry County Schools Superintendent Cindy Elsberry said.

The program allows current high school students to start working on getting their college degrees before they graduate high school.

The new campus is behind the Horry County campus of Horry-Georgetown Technical College.

Classes begin on August 22.
