CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - Now that the primaries are over, the general election campaign season is opening in South Carolina.

In the 1st Congressional District Democrat Bobbie Rose is starting his campaign Sunday at the Longshoreman's Hall in downtown Charleston. She faces incumbent Rep. Tim Scott in the November election.

The state's redrawn 1st Congressional District now extends along the state's coast to Hilton Head Island.

The district was redrawn as a result of population growth reflected in the 2010 census. Much of the old 1st District is now part of the state's new 7th District in the northeastern corner of the state.
