It could be a year or more before a dog that survived an attempted drowning in Georgetown gets a new home.

Dara, a 4-year-old lab was found July 2nd, tied up with duct tape and fighting for her life in a canal. At the animal shelter where Dara is kept, caregivers say the dog is considered evidence in a criminal case, so she can't be adopted until the case is completed.

A $2,500 reward that helped lead to an arrest in that case won't be handed out until there's a successful conviction.

Bobby Joe McConnell, 47, is the man accused of killing two other dogs and trying to kill Dara. He is charged with three counts of Ill Treatment of Animals.
