Designer Ralph Lauren announced Friday that the uniforms it provides the U.S. Olympic team at the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi, Russia, will, in fact, be made in the United States.

The U.S. uniforms for the Opening Ceremony at the London Games were made in China, which sparked congressional criticism of the U.S. Olympic Committee.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., said the USOC should be "ashamed of themselves."

Surfside Beach resident Tom Palmieri volunteered at the 1984 summer Olympic games. He saved a lot of souvenirs from that experience and not a one of those items has a label that says "Made in China."

He is ashamed at the "Made in China" uniforms as well.

"For an American team participating in an international event, I was very bewildered to learn that our team was wearing clothing that was not made in America, not made in the USA," said Palmieri.

Horry County resdient Skip MacKenna has a website devoted to finding made in America products. He said there was no excuse for the "Made in China" uniforms in the first place.

"Everybody wants the cheapest they can find," said MacKenna. "You know, we make a lot of good uniforms right here in the United States."

The USOC defended its choice of Ralph Lauren, saying it was grateful for the support from an "iconic American company."

Ralph Lauren initially declined comment on the criticism, but 24 hours later announced clothes for future Olympics would be made in the United States.
