LIBERTY, N.C. (AP) - The North Carolina town with the patriotic name of Liberty is celebrating the Independence Day holiday a few days late.

The News & Observer of Raleigh reported that Liberty town manager Roger Davis says the town saves money by delaying its celebration because it gets fireworks for half the cost. So the Randolph County town is celebrating the July 4th holiday on Saturday, July 7th.

Officials think the town of 2,800 people would have a hard time attracting people who want to attend larger fireworks displays anyway. So Liberty annually celebrates on the Saturday after July 4th with an event that typically attracts about 80 percent of the town's residents, along with a few folks from other places.

The celebration includes 60 vendors, 10 food trucks and bands.
