The State Election Commission and the Democratic nominee for the 7th Congressional District race hope to get the state's supreme court to overturn a restraining order that could impact the Republican runoff in that race.
Gloria Bromell Tinubu, the Democratic nominee for the 7th District, joined an appeal from the State Election Commission seeking to overturn a restraining order that stops county election commissions from moving forward with next Tuesday's runoff in the 7th District Congressional Republican Race. That is according to her attorney, James Smith, Jr. of Columbia.
The suit that led to the restraining order was filed by two Horry County voters who want to see a runoff in the Democratic race between Tinubu and the next closest vote getter, Preston Brittain.
Smith says under the restraining order issued by an Horry County judge in the case, election commissions have their hands tied and wouldn't be able to move forward with next Tuesday's Republican primaries. Right now they are not able to issue absentee ballots in that race under the ruling.
Tinubu and the State Election Commission want the restraining order lifted so the Republican runoff can move forward. We'll let you know when a decision is reached.
