An Horry County jury found a man from Lugoff, South Carolina guilty of 1st Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct with a Minor and Lewd Act on a Minor.
On Tuesday, Circuit Court Judge Larry Hyman sentenced Jon Wynn Jarrard, 59, to 15 years for each count, according to the Fifteenth Circuit Solicitor's Office. The sentences will run concurrently.
Horry County police arrested Jarrard in May 2010 following a complaint by one of his relatives regarding sexual encounters with an eight-year-old victim, according to the report. Jarrard was a registered sex offender at the time.
The victim, who is now ten-years-old, testified in Jarrard's trial.
"Justice was done in this case because of the ten-year-old victim's courage and willingness to face her abuser and do the right thing, not the easy thing. Mr. Jarrard can no longer hurt children," Assistant Solicitor Candice Lively said.
Jarrard is not eligible for parole and must serve at least 85 percent of his sentence in prison. He will remain on the sex offender registry and the child abuse registry.
