Newberry County officials say blasting caps have been removed from a wreck that prompted an evacuation after a wreck.

About a half-dozen Newberry County residents were evacuated after a truck carrying explosive material overturned Tuesday.

Sheriff Lee Foster said no one has been injured.

A half-mile area around the wreck in a rural area near Kinards was evacuated as a precaution.

Foster says about two dozen members of his office, the fire department, hazardous materials unit and the State Law Enforcement Division were on the scene.

Foster said the truck was carrying ammonium nitrate and blasting caps for quarry operations. He said it overturned near U.S. 76 and state Highway 560.

The sheriff said he was uncertain how long the cleanup will take.
