Darlington County Voter Registration director Hoyt Campbell says he expects only 8,000 of the county's 40,000 registered voters to show up at the polls Tuesday.
Campbell says voters don't turnout in big numbers for primary elections like they do in general elections.
Poll workers at Darlington Precinct 3 say about 600 people have voted as of 3:00 p.m. They've seen most of the voters during the morning hours right after the doors opened. Poll workers say most people are casting ballots in the Democratic Primary.
Many voters say the big races for them are the Darlington County Sheriff's Race and SC House District 62.
In the sheriff's race, incumbent Sheriff Wayne Byrd is being challenged by Charles Woodle, who is the Lamar Police Chief.
House District 62 pits longtime Representative Denny Neilson against Representative Robert Williams. The two represented separate districts , but redistricting changes puts them vying for the same seat.
We'll have election results on these races as soon as they're made available to us. Http://www.carolinalive.com/news/content.aspx?id=710140#.T9ecJ7UV3Q8
