Students at several schools in the Pawleys Island area had to take cover Tuesday afternoon after a tornado warning was issued just as students were about to be dismissed.
The tornado warning was lifted at 2:30 p.m.
We contacted the Georgetown County School District and spoke with Public Information Officer Ray White. He said the safety of the students is always their main concern. He said transportation and administration officials were monitoring the weather.
Parents of students at Waccamaw Elementary and Waccamaw Intermediate said students were instructed to get under their desks and cover their heads with their hands.
One parent of a child at Waccamaw Elementary told us the parents in line to pick up their children were allowed to get out of their cars and into the school for safety.
White says he's checking to see if there was any damage reported at the schools, but so far we haven't had any.
