Myrtle Beach police have arrested Maxine Rai Stalvey, 47, of Myrtle Beach and charged her with four counts of abandonment/mistreatment of animals. Officers say she left a dog and three birds locked inside a storage unit with no water, electricity or ventilation.
Officers were called to Uncle Bob's Storage at 600 Cannon Rd. Monday afternoon after a witness claimed she heard dogs barking in a unit, according to a Myrtle Beach Police report. The report goes on to say when the witness cut the lock of the door and opened it, police found a white poodle in the back of the unit in a carrier. The dog had a muzzle on its face to prevent barking.
Officers also found a birdcage with two parakeets and a birdcage with a white finch inside the unit. No water was located for any of the animals. The report said police seized the animals and took them to Grand Strand Humane Society.
Tuesday morning, police located Stalvey, who rents the unit. She was arrested and taken to the Myrtle Beach Jail.
