FLORENCE -- Windy Hill Fire Chief John Delung says three dogs and two cats died in a house fire on Laurel Circle Monday night in Florence.

DeLung says there was little they could do to save the home, and the fire destroyed about 90% of the house.

We talked with neighbors who are deeply disturbed by the deaths of the animals. One woman, who was sobbing as she talked to us, called the dogs "absolutely adorable" and "very friendly."

The Florence County Sheriff's Office is investigating if the fire was intentionally set.

Deputies collected evidence from the scene and talked with neighbors about what was going on at the home before the fire started.

Florence County Sheriff's Office Captain Michael Nunn is expected to release more information about the cause of the fire later today.
