ATLANTIC BEACH --
Atlantic Beach town leaders now say last year's Bike Fest made even more than they first reported.
Town council members met Monday to talk about last year's profits.
In a previous meeting, the financial committee said the town made less than $5,000 from the event. But Monday, members said the town profited more than $18,000.
Mayor Pro-tem Carolyn Cole said the change in the numbers comes from the previous administration's poor record keeping.
"As accountants they can't put down documentation that doesn't exist. Every time they find something or someone else in that office finds something that they can give to them to say this is Bike Fest money then they put it there," Cole said.
Cole also said the council was scheduled to vote on whether the town would hold Bike Fest this year, but Mayor Retha Pierce and Councilman Jake Evans didn't show up so they didn't have enough members present to discuss it.
