BOILING SPRINGS, S.C. (AP) - A South Carolina woman has been charged with neglect after stranding her son, who has cerebral palsy, at a gas station.

Spartanburg deputies say 37-year-old Maranda Deett Ross was driving with her son in Boiling Springs on Thursday morning.

Authorities say Ross was angry that her son did not answer "Yes, ma'am" when she asked him if he was hungry.

Authorities say Ross pulled in to a Boiling Springs convenience store parking lot and told her son he could walk the five miles home. Deputies say the teen called his father, who called police.

Ross was charged with neglect of a child or helpless person. She was released from jail on a $20,000 bond, and it wasn't known if she had an attorney.
