Drivers should expect delays on Interstate 95 Wednesday morning due to an overturned tractor trailer. At 7:19 a.m, units from the Florence City Fire Department were dispatched to I-95 near I-20 for a reported motor vehicle collision involving an 18-wheeler carrying a hazardous material.

While on the the way, firefighters requested assistance from West Florence Fire Department due to the hazardous contents of the 18-wheeler.

Crews found that the 18-wheeler was carrying Sodium Hydroxide which has the potential to be hazardous to humans and can cause serious chemical burns.

At this time, firefighters from the West Florence Fire Department, Florence County Emergency Management, DEHEC and the SCHP are on scene while the clean up is taking place.

The exit ramp from I-95 South on to I-20 West is expected to open at 5 p.m.

The driver of the 18-wheeler sustained minor injuries.
