Horry County held a special Administration Committee meeting Monday to discuss the Little River Blue Crab Festival.

Earlier this month we reported on a letter sent to vendors by the festival committee. The letter said the committee was canceling the 2012 festival and using the time to address issues of parking, transportation and security that have come up in recent festivals.

Harold Worley, the Horry County councilman who represents that area, then sent a letter to vendors saying the committee didn't have the right to cancel the festival because it belonged to the people of Little River.

Worley chaired Monday's meeting at the Horry County Government and Justice Center to discuss the problems with the festival and call for more transparency in planning the event, held every May.

Eleven Little River business people got up before the Administration Committee to talk about the importance of the event to the Little River economy.

Worley and the community members are asking Horry County staff to come up with bylaws and approve a committee to handle the festival.

Horry County spokesperson Lisa Bourcier says the county has asked for some additional information.

The possible role Horry County could play in the festival will be discussed at a Committee of the Whole meeting on January 17th.
