Georgetown County Sheriff's deputies have called off a manhunt for an attempted murder suspect in the woods behind Waccamaw Community Hospital.

Georgetown County Sheriff's Office Public Information Officer Carrie Culbertson tells NewsChannel 15 Georgetown County deputies were assisting Horry County officers who were serving a warrant for attempted murder on the suspect. That happened about 6 pm Friday.

She says the suspect was at Waccamaw Community Hospital visiting a family member, and when an officer approached him outside the hospital to question him, he ran into the woods.

Horry County Police Lieutenant Myron Creel says the man they're looking for is Kendrick Walter Green, 27. Creel says he's black, 6'2" 160 pounds. No picture of Green is available. Creel says they're not ruling out that Green may be armed and dangerous.

Georgetown County Sheriff's Office had bloodhounds out looking for him and had a perimeter set up in the area behind hospital. That perimeter stretched from Wachesaw East to Journeys End Road to Highway 707. The bloodhounds lost his scent at Pond Road, so the active search has been called off, but deputies will remain in the area to patrol. Creel says Pond Road where the bloodhounds lost his scent is a paved road, so that may indicate he was picked up by someone in a car.

Residents are asked to lock their doors, and if you see anything or anyone suspicious, call 9-1-1.

NewsChannel 15 has a crew on the scene and will bring you more information as it comes in both here on CarolinaLive.com and on NewsChannel 15 at 11.
