A Dillon County firefighter remains in critical condition Friday.

Dillon County Fire Chief Bobby Thompson says Assistant Chief Ed Edwards suffered a heart attack while fighting a fire at the Players Nightclub overnight.

Fellow firefighters performed CPR, put him in an ambulance and took him to the hospital. Edwards is now at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence.

The fire started at 12:25 a.m. Friday at the club on Dean Court.

Chief Thompson says the fire was arson. State police arson agents are investigating.

This is the second fire this week at the club.

Wednesday afternoon, Player's Nightclub caught fire. The owner of the building says someone cut a hole through the roof and poured gasoline down the hole to start a fire.

We're not sure what caused Friday morning's fire, but the building is heavily damaged.

In October, the Stables Club in the Little Rock community on Highway Nine West, just down the street from the Player's Nightclub, burned. Investigators said it was intentionally set.

They're investigating to see if the fires are related.

NewsChannel 15 will continue to follow this situation and update you as more information becomes available.
