Horry County police arrested a man who once ran for local and state offices, for operating an illegal gambling establishment out of his business.

Fonzie Lewis owns 501 Mini Mart located at 4245 Highway 501 West in Conway. Horry County police seized five suspected video poker machines from the store last Friday and a magistrate was inspecting them to determine if they were illegal.

Lewis was arrested Monday night and booked at J. Reuben Long Detention Center. He is charged with operating a gaming house.

According to our records, Lewis ran for Horry County Council in 2006 for District 11 and for South Carolina House District 58 in 2008.

More arrests are possible.
