Myrtle Beach police Captain David Knipes says a sick or injured manatee was seen just off-shore of Myrtle Beach just south of the Myrtle Beach Skywheel.

Someone called in to say a large marine mammal was trying to beach itself, but still in the surf about 100-200 yards off shore.

Lifeguards and beach patrol monitored it for a while, but then it disappeared and hasn't been seen again since.

Everyone has been allowed to return to the water.
