CONWAY -- The nonprofit Horry County Disabilities and Special Needs Foundation hosted a a ribbon cutting Monday afternoon, to commemorate a new two story 6,000 square foot addition.

All together, through housing and other therapy services, the county works with 245 individuals across the county with disabilities.

About 50 people attended the ceremony, including SC Senator Luke Rankin who said, "It is a blessed day to be here!" He was joined by South Carolina Representative Tracy Edge who said, "We had a great need in Horry County, we had to see it was filled. Today is our day."

In addition to the ceremonial cutting of the ribbon, the building's addition received a blessing.

The facility is off Victory Lane in Conway.

The group hopes the new addition will help them serve more people with disabilities like autism, mental retardation, and other head and spinal cord injuries (also known as HASCI).

The organization was originally founded in the 1980's, and now houses 70 individuals in 10 community training homes, two community residential care facilities, and nine supervised living apartments.
