A state Senate subcommittee has begun the process of redrawing state House, Senate and congressional districts in South Carolina. The committee held its first organizational meeting Wednesday and set up a schedule of public hearings on the redistricting process that is required by federal law every ten years.

Due to population growth over the past decade, South Carolina will gain a seventh U.S. House seat and there's been speculation the new district could be centered on the Grand Strand. However, the Spartanburg area could also gain a seat.

The public hearings will all begin at 6:30 p.m. on the following dates and locations:

March 28, Myrtle Beach, Horry-Georgetown Technical College

March 29, Aiken

March 30, Rock Hill

March 31, Greenville

April 4, Beaufort

April 5, Columbia

April 6, Florence, Florence-Darlington Technical College

April 7, Charleston
