FLORENCE -- NewsChannel 15 has learned the Department of Social Services is doing an internal investigation into the death of a three-year-old Florence child.

Deputies say Tylashia Grant died as a result of homicide by child abuse.

Her great aunt, Jeraldine Brockington, and cousin, Kesia Grant, are both charged with homicide by child abuse.

They're expected to appear in court for a bond hearing this week.

Relatives say Brockington had had custody of Tylashia since she was just a few months old.

A spokesperson for DSS tells us the agency will investigate this custody case from beginning to end.

They're trying to determine if they did everything they were supposed to do in accordance with policies and if it was done correctly.
