Horry County police, the US Coast Guard, and the SC Department of Natural Resources are searching for missing man after his boat was found floating in the ocean near Murrells Inlet without him in it.

The active search was called off around 7 p.m. Tuesday. Day two of the search will begin at 7 a.m. Wednesday. Searchers hope to have a plane up to help, but that's dependent on the weather, which was extremely foggy on the Inlet Tuesday.

The Coast Guard says they discovered an unmanned 12-foot Jon boat around 8:00 a.m. Tuesday morning with a wallet and keys. Searchers eventually learned those items belonged to Harvey Cox, 58, of Florence, S.C. Investigators also found a vehicle and a boat trailer, belonging to Cox, at a nearby boat ramp.

The last time Cox was seen was at 6:15 p.m. Monday, and he hasn't contacted any next of kin.

A 25-foot rescue boat crew from Coast Guard Station Georgetown, S.C., and an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter air crew from Air Facility Charleston are responding to help in the search.

Horry County police are searching for missing man after his boat was found floating in the ocean without him in it.

Lt. Robert McCullough, with the Department of Natural Resources, says a search is underway for a man in his 50's after a boat was found adrift near Murrells Inlet. Horry County police have also found an unoccupied truck in the area that may belong to the boater.

Right now, it is unclear if the man went missing from his boat. His identity has not been released

McCullough says search and rescue planes can not be used because of weather conditions.
