Cahaly is charged with 6 counts of Automatically Dialed Announcing Device Violations.
The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division has arrested Robert Charles Cahaly, 41, on allegations he made illegal political calls involving six House District races in South Carolina.
Cahaly is the consultant manager for Ken Ard, the Republican Lt. Governor-elect of South Carolina.
Cahaly is charged with 6 counts of Automatically Dialed Announcing Device Violations.
SLED says Cahaly turned himself in Wednesday morning as promised.
The warrants state Cahaly is accused of paying for and disseminating automated telephone calls (often known as "robo-calls") from an automatically dialed answering device on September 23.
According to a SLED news release, the calls were political in nature and were allegedly made to potential South Carolina voters without properly disclosing the identity of the originating party to the call recipients. SLED says this violates South Carolina law.
The SLED release goes on to say that agents determined the illegal calls were made through a Richland County landline telephone number owned by Gadsden and Greene Strategies which is also owned by Cahaly.
The calls were allegedly made to numerous voters in House Districts 26 (Greenville and Pickens), 78 (Richland County), 79 (Kershaw and Richland Counties), 98 (Dorchester County), 108 (Charleston and Georgetown Counties) and 115 (James Island and Folly Beach).
