Horry County police released pictures of the pipe bombs recovered in the backpack of the Socastee High School student accused of firing a shot at a school resource officer Tuesday.

The 14-year-old student is accused of walking into Officer Erik Karney's office and firing a single shot that missed the officer by inches, hitting the door to his office instead. Karney was wounded by shrapnel for that shot, but was treated and released from the hospital.

During the investigation, police discovered the student, who has not been named, also had pipe bombs inside the school. Bomb squad teams were called in from Myrtle Beach, Horry County and the State Law Enforcement Division.

Tuesday evening, police executed a search warrant at the student's home and recovered items used in the construction of pipe bombs and other incendiary devices.

The student is expected to be in court Friday, when we may learn what charges he faces.

Horry County police are consulting with the 15th Circuit Solicitor's Office on what charges will be appropriate. That office told NewsChannel 15 Wednesday morning  the student will most likely face an attempted murder charge as well as a charge of possession of bomb making materials.

The student is being held at the Department of Juvenile Justice in Columbia.
