Prosecutors with the 4th Circuit Solicitor's Office served Robert Lee Nelson, 19, with a death penalty notice Thursday.

Police say last December he killed Walter Swaner, 84, and his wife Mary Swaner, 80, in their home on Dixie Acres Drive near Hamer.

A relative found their bodies inside their home.

Police have never released how the couple was killed, but they did say it appears that robbery was the motive.

It's expected that Nelson will be appointed two attorneys to represent him.

A trial date has not been set for this case.

Nelson remains behind bars at the Dillon County Detention Center.
