A 55-year-old Florence man was killed in Horry County today when the moped he was driving was hit by a car.

South Carolina Highway Patrol says the accident happened on highway 501, near highway 319 just outside of Aynor. Troopers say Jerry Lynn Chapman was on a moped around 3:00 this afternoon, heading south on 501. Officials say he drifted in front of another vehicle.

The car hit Chapman, throwing him off the bike. He was taken to Conway Hospital where Horry County Coroner Robert Edge says he died. Chapman was reportedly not wearing a helmet.
